  • Why Won’t Romney Reveal Tax Records?

Because it’s tough to tell which country from which he should divulge:

Remember, this is a man who is worth over $200 million. This is also a man who claims that Obama is “out of touch with the average American.” Compared to Romney, Obama is the epitome of the American dream: born a minority, raised by a single mother and/or his grandmother, got through the absolute top schools on scholarships, worked his way up through smaller political positions to become our first minority president.

This is all in comparison to someone who claims his $374,000 per year speaking fees are “not very much.” Look, at this point I am rather pissed at Obama, but compared to Romney it’s like night and day. Hell, it’s overcast night after being maced in the eyes by an overzealous policeman at a peaceful Occupy Wall Street protest and day.

  • Amazing, ain’t it? But it’s hard to spin an income of 57K a DAY into “I’m just an average guy”.If i really want to giggle, I look for his stuff about being a self made man.Guess it didn’t hurt, his dad being CEO for a major car company?

  • @galadrial - I prefer his appeal to Latino voters by saying his grandfather was an immigrant from Mexico. Leaving out that his great-grandfather left America for Mexico so he could continue his polygamous cultish ways. Luckily for Democrats, Romney saying Arizona’s “Papers Please” laws being a “model” for the country has made him the least popular candidate for Latino voters of all time. Even the most lenient polls have him trailing Obama by around 50 points in that demographic, which pretty much loses him otherwise surefire states like Colorado and Nevada. If you’re a fan of Matt Tiabbi (which I personally am, 98% of the time), you’ll know this is actually one of the more boring presidential races ever. The press is really stretching to make it seem like Romney has a shot, when even Karl Rove shows that Obama basically has it in the bag short of announcing he will actively go door to door to impregnate all your sisters, it’s easy to draw conclusions. Still, I guess I shouldn’t get overly optimistic. I did that in ’04, then “Swift Boat Veterans for Truth” came out and people lapped that shit up.

  • Romney makes like $38 a minute, which is over 3x what I make an hour! He has never had to struggle financially in his life, and when the great majority of people in this country face those struggles and anxiety everyday, it is clear he is out of touch with the reality citizens face. However, he’s popular precisely because he embodies the “see, you could be like me someday” bullshit the ignorant believe exists, even though all the evidence supports the fact that social mobility doesn’t exist anymore. You’re pretty much stuck in your financial “class” based upon where you start in life, and really, the range of incomes for over 90% of Americans is but a minuscule range on that of the actually wealthy in this country: fractions of a percent at the top have income ranges from 6 to 9 digits! Anyway, there is plenty Obama could do better, but I really can’t fault him: he came into office and realized it’s a lot harder to get things done that you want. We also have to remember, he’s very much not a progressive! He could very well be a blue dog dem for how conservative he actually is. Even so, his central is socialist far to the left from the conservatives today, which are becoming more populated by the ignorant religious right and the tea party.

  • he makes more in a day then our family makes in a year

  • Perhaps we have had enough of someone we can relate to and we need someone who can reduce the unemployment rate.  I would think the “average” American would rather have a job than be able to relate to the president. He is rich.  It suggest he knows something about being successful financially.  Perhaps we need someone like that in the White House.

  • @TheTheologiansCafe - Oh, so you want someone who knows something about running a successful business over right-wing values (like I’m sure you voted in 2000 and 2004, as opposed to polling which showed that the candidate you’d rather have a beer with is the best one)? Or is it that this time you want someone who knows how to inherit his daddy’s money, then use it to run a firm whose seemingly sole purpose is to DESTROY American jobs? Sorry, what was your point again?

  • I don’t think ANY politician today really has a grasp of the common person’s plights.  But didn’t he release previous years’ returns?  I thought it was just this year’s he hadn’t released yet.  (Could be wrong, haven’t followed it much lately as he won’t be getting my vote anyway lol)

  • Romney Really Scares me! I do not think he has a clue on how the real America lives.

  • Romney’s just a spoiled rich kid who wants the big chair to stroke his narcissistic ego, so the very best we can hope for is re-election of the capitulator-in-chief. We need a bold leader who isn’t afraid to use the power that comes with the office to shape a brighter future but there aren’t any of those going to appear on the ballot. We get either someone who’ll let things get worse in Obama, or someone who’ll actively make things worse in Romney. No “third” parties are even fielding a better though unelectable alternative.I wonder if New Zealand would accept the job if we all wrote it in on our ballots.

  • @HappierHeathen - Hard to paint Obama as “capitulator-in-chief” when he made the bold and gutsy call to go after bin Laden with the SEALs, even though there were a number of his advisers (including the V P Biden) who wanted to either wait it out, or launch an air raid that had reduced chances of success and even less chance of a confirmed kill. How is he a capitulator, again?Romney doesn’t have a clue and half the time appears to have a deer-in-the-headlights look about him. This race is shaping up to be more and more like 2004, which was a comfortable-in-the-end re-election of Bush over Kerry. The similarities are striking.

  • @HappierHeathen - I’m holding out faith that the conservative nut-jobs are right and Obama will use his second term to ram a liberal agenda down our throats. His recent dodge on the gay marriage question after Biden’s Meet the Press interview affirms that idea.

  • @cmdr_keen - I’m hoping Matt Tiabbi is right, and this will be The Most Boring Election Ever.

  • @GodlessLiberal - Yeah, I read that from your earlier reply. Sounds about right to me, though I’d say the primary campaign for the GOP this year was in the same league as the Barack-Hillary slug-fest from 2008. I’ve seen this election as a re-run of 2004 for a long time, actually.

  • @cmdr_keen - in support of your comment re getting Bin Laden: Romney said “I could have made that call”. Romney sounded like a kid who after seeing an Olympic athlete win a gold medal turns to a girl he’s trying to impress and says, “I could have done that”. the truth is about two years before we got Bin Laden Obama ordered Panetta to put more resources into locating Bin Laden. On the other hand Romney said back then, “It’s not worth turning over heaven and earth and putting more money into finding Bin Laden”. One of the concerns about giving the go ahead is that if something went terribly wrong it could have caused great damage to Obama politically. Obama nonetheless chose to do the right thing for the American people. On the other hand what did Romney do when evangelicals pressured him to get rid of the gay foreign policy adviser Romney hired? Romney who had previously said he would have no problem with capable gays in his administration said nothing to defend the man he himself hired. the gay adviser resigned after finding he was suddenly locked out of meetings. Romney does not have leadership qualities. whose pressure is he going to cave under if he’s elected? Robert Gates and John Brennan, both of whom have served under 3 administrations characterized Obama’s decision as “probably the gutsiest call by a president in recent history”.also against the fears of some of his advisers Obama made the decision to save the American auto industry. Romney had taken out a full page ad in the New York Times entitled “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” wherein he explained why Detroit should not be saved There were no companies, not even his old Bain Venture Capital willing to take on a GM emerging from bankruptcy court. Now Romney is taking huge backlash after claiming last week it was his idea to save the auto industry. yesterday he spoke to an audience in Lansing, Michigan where you would think he’d have bragged about what he claims to have done. he didn’t say a word about it likely because he knew Michigan knows the truth. what a worm.

  • i remember when Romney joked about being unemployed himself. a voter asked him yesterday or the day before how much he has in offshore accounts. Romney said i’ll have to look into it, chuckled and moved on. those accounts are all tax shelters and he wants to further cut taxes to the ultra rich. it’s part of the Paul Ryan Plan Romney endorsed.

  • @cmdr_keen - to be crystal clear about the point of comparing the two decisions. Obama risked political damage to do the right thing by the American people. Romney chose to do the wrong thing so not to risk political damage.

  • @cmdr_keen - Obama wasn’t involved in political negotiation with bin Laden.@GodlessLiberal - I wish for the same thing, but I don’t see any reason to believe that Obama’s got the nards to be a great leader instead of just another politician. I find myself hearing Dan Hedaya in his role in Joe Vs. The Volcano over and over again: I know he can get the job but can he do the job?We need another FDR, but we don’t seem to be making men like him any more.

  • @HappierHeathen - How is that at all relevant!? What does that even mean?

  • @cmdr_keen - That’s precisely my point: Sending some guys to kill bin Laden has nothing at all to do with Obama’s capitulation to the GOP at every turn.

  • @TheTheologiansCafe - so…like the last 42 presidents. nope, they had no part in where we are now. no, let’s ignore that obama is helping the economy and all accurate numbers prove it. if you want jobs, keep obama, romney doesn’t give a damn about anyone or anything but money.
