  • Give the gun owners pot then they won’t shoot anybody?

  • I wish pot were legal.  It would make it easier to deal with the bullshit involved in the gun debate.

  • what a country. on another note, since middle school i realized there was a reason Athens, a culture of learning and philosophy survived while Sparta, a culture of war did not. if we want to prosper we should not allow Romney with his neocon staff from the Bush Jr. era which includes Bolton and his neocon advocate Cheney back into power. Romney’s a wimp anyway. he buckles at the knees before anyone he thinks will help him.

  • It’s amusing how people think that the opposite case would somehow make things better. Make and keep ‘em both legal I say!

  • You bloody Americans! In every one of my classes we have managed to discuss the “right to bare arms”. Australian students are suffering!

  • @Ellelarien - Bare arms?  That’s right, and in America you also have the right to bare legs and bare buttocks and bare bellies!  What a country.

  • If this is not the tme to discuss gun control, when will be the time?  As Rabbi Hillel said “If not now, when?”

  • @Ellelarien - Sorry about the snarky reply.  In fact, the rate of gun ownership always correlates to the murder rate.  This is true for countries and for US states.  ”Guns don’t kill people?”  uh, yeah.  They actually do.

  • It makes so sense to me, either. Weed is no more dangerous an intoxicant than alcohol and actually has some health benefits. It should have been legalized years ago.

  • @we_deny_everything - Actually, it’s not true.  In England, after the gun ban, the murder rate went up.  Same with Australia, Chicago, DC, etc.

  • People inclined toward extreme aggression usually don’t like weed anyway.

  • @grim_truth - You have a link for that assertion? I’ve lived in both the UK and Australia, and they’re the better for having strict gun control laws. Certainly no repeat rampages after Dunblane in 1993 or Port Arthur in 1996. I’m currently living in Texas. Then you look at the US, and you have Columbine, Virginia Tech, Fort Hood, Aurora… and I’m sure I’m missing one or two others. The conclusion that I would draw is that Americans tend not to learn their lessons from tragedies. What’s the definition of stupid? Doing the same thing over and over and over again expecting a different result?

  • @cmdr_keen - I will provide a link as soon as the other commenter supplies a link for his ascertation that murder rates go down.  Gun deaths do indeed go down, but the murder rates in general have gone up in the areas I listed.  Uniquely, I believe it was VT, some of the loosest gun control laws had 0 gun related murders.  But still had 7 other murders in 2009.Finland has some of the toughest gun laws.  77 Folks died in that massacre.  India also has stricts gun laws.  164 died in that massacre.  The guns used in Columbine were obtained illegally.  Guns were also banned from each of those locations. If you’re going to talk about stupid being doint something over and over again and expecting a different result, then you should be arguing for everyone to have guns.  Hitler disarmed his people.  Some of the largest genocides were able to be carried out because of gun control legislations. Over 1 million Armenians were killed by the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1917, after a gun control bill passed in 1911 and 1915.  The Soviet Union killed an estimated 20 million from 1929-1945 after gun control laws were passed in 1918, 1920, 1926 that made possession illegal.  The list goes on and on, Nationalist and Red China, Guatemala, Uganda, Cambodia, Rwanda.  All those genocides were preceded by gun control, to disarm the populace.  How’s that for a definition of stupid being doing the same thing over and over again?

  • Pot is pretty much legal in Cali.

  • @tendollar4ways - Not enough for the state-legal dispensaries to stop getting shut down.

  • i’d vote for automatic mellowness over automatic weapons any day.

  • Yea,I wish more thieves, rapists, and terrorists were stoned.  One or both of 2 things would happen.  They either would be so stoned they could not perform their bad acts and or when they do engage in such nefarious activity as to merit the opening of my “China Hutch” they would be moving slower thus rendering themselves easier targets. Sounds good to me.  Less ammo spent.  Smoke away.
