    Revelife Submissions

So Revelife recently featured a past post of mine (that I don't remember submitting, but thank you to whomever did) about My Favorite Bible Verses. What surprised me most was that they kept the comic I included in the post, especially since they edited my previous submission somewhat. Now, I'm asking you all to vote on more of my posts to get featured on Revelife. The voting page can be found from this link. The following are posts I've already submitted to be featured:

True Story: About a Christian Scientist girl I met in the hospital whose family disowned her for getting her fatal brain tumor surgically removed.

How I Became an Atheist: My personal saga from Christian to Apatheist to Born Again to Deist to Agnostic to Atheist.

The Creationist Concept of Kind: How disbelieving in evolution by common decent necessitates believing in a form of "super evolution" there is absolutely no evidence or precedent for.

Again, follow this link to vote for any of the previous entries mentioned (the links I provided are to the stories as they appear on my own site so you know what you're voting for). As of the time of my writing this, they all have exactly one vote (my own) and thus are all tied for third place for the front page.

The following are posts I plan on submitting in the future (or wouldn't mind if any of you submitted, so I don't seem so goddamned [pun intended] narcissistic):

Theodicy - God's Defense: All the possibilities or impossibilities to reconcile the existence with an omnibenevolent (all-good) god.

Failed Prophecies: Prophecies within the Hebrew Bible (known to most as the old testament) that have not, will not, and/or cannot come true.

Pascal's Wager: The problems with "hedging your bets" by believing in the Christian God.

Want to Reduce the Number of Abortions? Here's My Plan: A plan I devised (although I'm sure it's not original) to reduce abortions without eliminating Roe v. Wade and outlawing abortion. Basically, "pro-life" needs to extend to the pregnant pre-mother and to the post-fetus, something many "pro-life" advocates seem to forget.

Morality Without God: People question me, as an atheist, as to how/why I obey morally without a divine police presence looking over me.

Let me know which of the others I should submit (or submit them yourselves), and vote for any of the first three that have already been submitted (or don't vote, as you see fit). I just feel that Revelife needs some rationalism thrown into its mix, even if it is just to let the Revelife "trolls" kick it in the internet equivelent of the gonads.

And to counteract all the Christianity and Revelife-ness:

P.S. REC the hell out of this so Revelife is inundated by atheist entries.

Do you think me being on Revelife is a good idea, or is this just another piece of evidence for why we need an "atheist-ish" (a name I hate, by the way...got any better ones? Rationalish? How about Reasonish? Soloish? ) site?

I certainly think it can't hurt to get a diversity of views on Revelife.  I'd say go for it.

And on an unrelated note, Childhood's End is one of my favorite novels.

  • GodlessLiberal

@Demetrios_of_Phaleron - It was rated one of the best books of all time by some random group (I used to browse the internet at work a lot at my old job... now with no job I just try to run the internet). On a strange note, it ranked higher on "best books of all time" than 2001 (which was still on there) but much lower on "best sci-fi books of all time." I wonder how the criteria for that work.

That being said, did you vote?

  • BunnyParfait

While Revelife really NEEDS diverse views, I still think an atheist site would be nice to have. But not with that name. Its not Christianish after all.

  • Chinese_Sait0u

    howz about...reason-ish...nah. too offensive.

anyways, the true story one was good, but probably will lead to a lot of people saying that christian scientists are cultists (which kinda amuses me because for as long as i can remember, since elementary school, those permission slips for field trips always mentioned christian scientists. being a stupid little kid, i didn't think about it til like junior year of high school and one day i was like, what the fuck is a christian scientist? no one knew til i googled.)

i voted for another one. hope it gets chosen!

  • GodlessLiberal

@BunnyParfait - What name would you suggest? I suggest something based on "rational" or "natural" like "Naturalish." I know it sounds weird, but so does revelife. What does "revelife" even mean? Can we come up with somethings as off-the-wall as that? Let's name it "sexish." Think of how many hits it will get!

  • Dargon

Voted. What amuses me the most is the complaints when a non-Christian article hits the Revlife front page. Maybe it'll pressure the existance of an atheish.

With how strong a presence Revlife gives Christianity, getting counter points on there seems the only way at this time to get a similar presence.

  • BunnyParfait

@GodlessLiberal - lmao sexish would be perfect. :P but no one would think it was about atheism XD
rationalish....naturalish...hmmm. I have no idea haha xD we'll think of something!

  • Persiankitty

I think you certainly should be on Revelife. Sure Revelife may be a Christian place, but it doesn't hurt anyone of any religion to read and learn about things from other viewpoints, be they religious or not. Go you!

  • TheModernBunny

I voted for "How I Became an Atheist".

I hope you submit "Morality Without God" soon. That might get on the front page.

  • GodlessLiberal

@Persiankitty - Oh so many people I have spoken to/IM'd/Xanga'd would disagree with "it doesn't hurt anyone of any religion to read and learn about things from other viewpoints." I was told by someone, who shall remain nameless *cough*Ispeaklife*cough* that they don't need to read any books or Xanga posts trying to divert her from Jesus, so the best she had to do was read books REFUTING their arguments and probably using dozens of fallacies and quote mining techniques in the process, because they are all there to scare her away from her a priori assumption of Biblical Literalism and a six thousand day earth. If only people put as much faith in science as they did in a bronze-age book. Oh wait, they do, but only when they are getting an organ transplant or going through another huge procedure.

  • GodlessLiberal

@ModernBunny - Submit it yourself. Like I said, I can't be the only one. That's selfish and narcissistic and too Pat Robertson-esque for my tastes.

  • TheModernBunny

@GodlessLiberal - Cool, okay. I'll do that now. I think it would inspire much discussion on Revelife.

  • GodlessLiberal

@ModernBunny - P.S. You know you can vote on your own submissions, right?

  • TheModernBunny

@GodlessLiberal - lol, I thought that the submission itself counted as a vote. I'll check it out.

EDIT: Ah, there we go, 2 votes.

  • GodlessLiberal

@ModernBunny - 2 votes, 72 virgins! (Just create 35 fake accounts and give me 2 eProps on each!)

  • thirst2

I personally think we ought to have an "atheist-ish" (or whatever other name may better suit) constructed, by now if only because Xanga seems to refuse to construct any other ones, no matter the support for it. It's starting to look biased on their part

  • Brosho7

While I appreciate the fact that revelife has featured your blog, it would be better if there was an atheist site.

  • pheorbs

Does it need to be something with an ish?  Actuality?

  • ArmyWench

I don't think having an athiest[ish] site will make a whole lot of difference. I love reading revelife and then seeing whatever post getting shot down (especially that one about our founders being Christian... Someone needs to go back and actually read some of the letters written by Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, Madison, etc). And I don't see there being any difference between that and an athiest site... It just means there will be two places I have to go hunt down reading material. Personally, I find it sadistically appealing to put them on the defensive rather than the offensive, if you know what I mean

  • Persiankitty

@GodlessLiberal - UGH. That really bothers me. Listening to other people's views/opinions doesn't necessarily have to divert you from Jesus! All I'm saying is people should be aware and accept that other people believe in different things. Being aware of other viewpoints doesn't mean you have to change your own (ie  I went to a Catholic high school and one of the required classes in senior year was a World Religions class. They wanted us to be aware of other faiths and beliefs out there, but certainly didn't expect to divert us from Jesus). Unfortunately there are many idiots in the world, such as the one you just mentioned, who can't wrap their one-sided, fundamentalist minds around that. *sigh*

  • MangoWOW

I just think we need to have a site that talks about religion (theist and atheist topics) in general.

But I love the name rationalish. lol

    I voted ♥

  • NoPenniesHere

Personally, I'm a Christian and I think it's a good idea for you to be on Revelife.  I think it's a good idea to see other points of view.

  • nidan

I do think you being on revelife is a good idea, but I also think an atheist-ish site is a good idea of it's own.

  • Guru_on_the_Hilldotcom

The "ish" portion of the other sites' names drives me crazy. When I come up with a better suffix, I'll let you know. Be forewarned: the wheels turn slowly.
