Or, they found out that until there was a ceremony, (vows and all) that merely having sex was considered marriage. This is why these things are not stated (ceremonies, etc) until later on in the bible. ;) It's also why if someone slept with someone else, the bible tells them that they MUST take them as their wife/spouse in Leviticus. Because at that point sex was considered the vow. That's how highly regarded it was. You shared your body? That's your spouse. The vow was (as the bible says) let your yes be yes, and your no be no. So if someone gave someone else their body, it as considered a silent vow.

I'd like the chapter and verse in the bible that clearly makes that point. Or did you pull out of thin air (to put it nicely)?
@In_Reason_I_Trust - I don't normally read a single thing that you say to me anymore... not a single thing.
However, this time I did so, and I shall reply. ^_^ However, I will not reply again after this. (partly because I will be gone for a while and then have better things to do then be called a loony by you, no offense &&)
I actually did not conveniently forget to mention anything, In Leviticus there are a few scriptures that refer to "taking a woman" in the fields, or "having sex with" in the fields, and in some cases, yes, the translation would seem to imply rape. I was actually hinting at this in my first comment.
To understand where the rape thing is coming from, you must understand that in the time that the law was made, sex was consider
@In_Reason_I_Trust - Oh and in response to the "pulling this out of thin air" thingamadealio... No... I did not. There are plenty of examples in which the yes of "marriage" was not a ceremony but rather a simple "yes" and a sexual relationship.
The bible says not to take vows, and for yes to be yes and no to be no. Sleeping with someone was considered a "yes" .
An example would be Isaac and his wife. They didn't have a ceremony. He took her into his tent and "knew" her. (sex)
@LKJSlain - [To understand where the rape thing is coming from, you must understand that in the time that the law was made, sex was consider...]
FAIL. Who cares what sex was considered to be at the time? Isn't your god ETERNAL, and omniscient? It's hilarious to me that believers bring up how things were at the time. Who gives a shit? You're admitting (whether you know it or not) that the bible is nothing but the writing of men with absolutely no intervention of any sort whatsoever from a superior being or deity. That's exactly what you're admitting, and whether you agree or not with that is beside the point.
As for you not reading what I say, I don't care. The only reason I reply to you is not because I care to engage you in debate (notice that it's rare for me to reply to your replies to me - that's because I don't even bother to l
@LKJSlain - ...look at them most of the time.) I do it to point out the obvious. That your beliefs are false and messed up. The facts of reality have won, and your beliefs have failed, because they're nothing but fabricated myths. These are facts, but there's a good chunk of people that don't realize it yet, because they've been brainwashed. So, I comment to PUBLICLY wipe the floor with such silly ideas, in the hopes that those on the fence and/or who don't know any better might see the truth. It has worked in turning people away from Christianity, and it will continue to work. Your religion is dying. Maybe we won't see its well-deserved demotion to the dustbin of outdated myths in our lifetimes, but that day is coming. Thanks to the internet, it's very difficult to keep people ignorant and sheltered.
@In_Reason_I_Trust - And believe it or not, people are still coming to Christ every day through different means. It's not me anyways. Your fight seems to be with God. :) My husband was a former atheist as are a lot of my friends. Your fight really isn't with me, and proof of certain things is really only on the end of who is being influenced. You're an atheist, you're going to have friends who agree with you... I have atheist friends, and funnily enough they're asking about God more and more in a sincere way every day.
So I guess both sides are still pretty balanced. ^_^
You can publicly wipe the floor with me here (although you really didn't prove or say anything except bla bla bla you're stupid for believing and your God is supposedly this and this) but God is working not only in my life but in the lives of those around me twenty four s
