Who Do You Side With Politically?
Check out the website I Side With to see who your TRUE candidate is. You may be surprised. I sure wasn’t.
I pretty much expected this, which is why I’m voting Green this election. My district and state are in no danger of siding red, so I don’t even have to worry about my vote for Stein essentially being a vote for Romney (like Nader/Bush in ’00). Check out the site, see who you actually side with. You may be surprised.

i got the same result. unfortunately, Missouri could go either way. so i’m voting for Obama to be on the safe side. i may not like everything he does, but he’s still better than any conservative.
When I vote, I don’t tend to piss away votes on a party that won’t win, even if my district tends to vote along the lines I’m generally comfortable with. I did this fun little quiz a while back but decided not to post the results. I’m sure anyone who reads my comments or brief posts know who I might side with; if they don’t even better! keepemguessing
@flapper_femme_fatale - That would be my feeling as well if I lived in a “swing state”. My biggest pro-Obama rationale is that it looks like two or three Supreme Court seats will open up during his second term, and considering we currently have the most conservative Supreme Court since such things were tracked, balancing out all the right-wing idiocy that led to “corporations are people, my friend” is reason enough to vote for Obama. But like I said, my district and state are so solidly blue that Republicans have stopped campaigning here.
I got 95% agreement with that same lady. But, I don’t know who she is, sadly. I guess I’ll have to look up more info on her.
Sadly, looks like I agreed 13% with that fuckwit Romney. I think that’s WAY too much. LOL!
I haven’t been to the site yet, but I don’t understand how its results can be accurate when nobody really knows what Mitt Romney actually stands for or what he intends to do when he gets into office. He has failed to substantively flesh out virtually any of his positions on any issues, and the nebulous ideas he has provided seem to directly conflict with his actions as governor (e.g., abortion). He’s a political opportunist, not someone with a lucid plan for America.
I’m embarrased. I was 94% with Jill Stein and I don’t even know who she is.
I’ve done this, and I was surprised as well. The two biggest take-aways I got was that an election based on policies will probably lead to really surprising results (as opposed to names-only) and that the candidates have broadly similar positions – more than what they or the media would like us to believe.
@GodlessLiberal - lucky. we have Akin. ’nuff said.
my particular district is pretty strongly Democrat. but St. Louis is an island of blue in a sea of red.
@Unstoppable_Inner_Strength - I thought the same thing when I agreed 10% with Romney. Maybe they’re using some of his policies he used as governor in Massachusetts, when he was pro-choice, pro-gay rights, etc.
@Unstoppable_Inner_Strength - @ColdSkivvies - She’s a doctor who graduated from Harvard medical school, she’s been arrested for peaceful political protests against housing foreclosures, and she’s set records for percentage of the vote when running for positions in Massachusetts, getting double digits every time (which, for a small third party, is pretty good).
Great test! I think I may have to shamelessly steal it from you. I scored who I voted for; Ron Paul. Next was Gary Johnson. I’m in a swing state so I cannot afford to vote for either of them.
@GodlessLiberal - @flapper_femme_fatale - And in Oklahoma we have Jim Inhofe. You can’t get away from the crazies no matter where you live.
@flapper_femme_fatale - If I was in your scenario, I’d vote Green at every level but president. But that’s me. And sorry about Akin. Luckily, the GOP is pulling all funding for him. For what it’s worth, we have Michele Bachmann.
@Kellsbella - I actually really like Gary Johnson. Ron Paul stuck to his principles so much that he in some cases seemed to be uncaring. Johnson seems very calm and likeable. Curious: which swing state do you live in (if you’re willing to share)?
97% Jill, 87 Obama, 1% Twit RMoney
I’m not siding with anyone this year…..
I was at 75% for both Ron Paul and Jill Stein the last time I took the test a few weeks ago. I laughed when I saw you got Stein too, being that your so liberal and I am moderate (though, you would say conservative I am sure, ha ha).
Stein 93%, Obama 87%, Paul 28%, Romney 20%. True — nobody knows where Romney stands on anything. I suppose he takes a strong position that he wants to be president please. I agree with him on this 20%.
I’m actually 82% and 82% between Green and Democratic. I think NC is a swing state (because I can’t go five minutes without seeing some sort of political ad), too.
I sympathized with the Greens until I actually attended a Green Party county convention. A clique of school teachers tried to control the agenda and wouldn’t recognize motions from the floor. Nothing was accomplished.
I got 93% Stein, 84% Obama, 79% Stewart Alexander, 53% Paul, and 7% Romney. Apparently I side 55% with the voters of my state, which is a bit of a surprise considering how red it is.
@Rob_of_the_Sky - And what percentage was Rob of the Sky?
lol slow pony
This voting-for-the-lesser-of-two-evils thing is a farce. There are enough candidates out there to vote your conscience.
@Kellsbella - @flapper_femme_fatale - @lucylwrites - @emily_shannon -
No state, swing state or otherwise, has ever come down to one vote. Or even a handful.
It’s sad that we need match sites now a days to find out there are any other candidates out there. Even this barely brushes the surface. Shame we can’t research for ourselves.
@GodlessLiberal - good idea. i’m not even sure who the Green candidates are locally. i’ll check up on it.
and: yay! what’s funny is, i’m not surprised he thinks that way. i’m surprised that he was dumb enough speak it aloud.
Interesting quiz! Not surprised by my results, either. Similar to yours. I got 94% Jill Stein, 83% Obama, 74% Stewart Alexander, 70% Gary Johnson, 57% Jimmy McMillan, 51% Ron Paul, A whopping 16% for Mitt Romney, and 9% for Virgil Goode. I side with 60% of voters in my state (Pennsylvania), and 59% of American voters. For parties, I got 96% Democrat, 91% Green, 41% Libertarian, and 4% Republican.
@jaydedheart - www.politicalmatch.com…. our new pet project! We can make millions (assuming it doesn’t already exist, in which case I’m advertising for a sit that ripped off our idea previous to having said idea.
Not really surprised that I got 96% Ron Paul or 91% Gary Johnson. I was already planning on voting for one of them considering they are closest to my stances. I thought it laughable that the quiz claimed I’m 91% with Mitt Romney. The guy changes his position all the time and I will never vote for him. I only got 15% with Obama…which again, no surprise.
Mitt Romney and then Ron Paul a very close second.
I must admit that surprised me. I think Ron Paul is a nutcase.
@UTRow1 - Gotta disagree with you on this comment. I think Mitt’s “Plan” is similar to his business philo and dealings at Bain C. A) Take all the assets out for YOUR investors..Koch Brothers, etc (Tax cuts and privatization of anything of any value to said investors), Leverage as much as possible (for all Ryan’s deficit Hawk’ns BS..military spending will continue to rise, budgets aren’t project to be balanced until the 2020′s. C) declare bankruptcy and leave the government to fulfill pension obligations and leave sucka lenders holding the bag while you make off with the loot and leave all the workers (American’s) to wallow in the mess you left as you take off and live high on the hog.
South of France? Homeboy speaks French ya know.
@tendollar4ways - That would seem to contradict years of his behavior as governor of Massachusetts, though, where he was often heralded as a pro-union populist.
@UTRow1 - You make a good point there. He was also pro-abortion, Centrist and did Romney Care which we all know is similar to Obamacare. Perhaps I am a bit to cynical. It is quite obvious he flip flopped for political reason. I do believe many if not almost all of the Republicans actually believe the Horse and Sparrow plan will work and be the savior of the day. Bain might actually have thought GST was a good sound investment at one time and did unethically as they were, what the rules allowed when things went south.
Either way the investors are gonna get paid. Same goes for Obama too as we have seen.
Why use a poll. Just vote the way great grampa did, granpad did, daddy did and you’ll be safe. That, or choose the taller candidate and/or the one with the best smile.
Polls and surveys are interesting. The truth is that what any candidate says they believe in – or will work to enact into law – is handicapped by the actual process itself. Compromises are made – necessarily. Bills become saturated with extraneous provisions that make it difficult for any elected offical to vote in a way that may actually represents their own values or what they perceive to be the good of their sate and the people they represent. A first time candidate for the house or senate finds, upon election, that they have very little power or influence. That said, I rather have some surveys, and some input from the League of Women Voters, and the like, to give me more insight about candidates than I can garner on my own.
IIRC I got a similar result when I tried. Not bad.
That site is excellent, and I highly recommend it. I also rated 96% Jill Stein, but my Obama score was 93% and he has a much better chance of winning, so I think for expected utility I’ll vote for Obama instead.
I like how this test listed a phoney category called “SCIENCE ISSUES.”
@McScarry - What is this “science” they speak of? I thought the Republicans voted that out of the country already.
@TheTheologiansCafe - I agree, Ron Paul is a nutcase. But this poll is only based on the person’s (or, lacking that, his/her political party’s) stated stance on an actual issue. So no personality involved (and no personality is perfect for Mitt Romney).
Hey, haven’t heard from you in awhile. Hope it’s because you’re having way too much fun doing other things besides post on Xanga!
Obama, Stein were both in the 90s, democratic was 97% and green was 75%….and I think 10% for the republicans. I agreed with 63% of voters in my state of Wisconsin.
@Ooglick - I’m writing a post about why I haven’t been writing posts right now.
Jill Stein is doing an AMA on Reddit right now. I thought you might be interested.
I was neutral towards the Green Party, but after looking through this AMA, I’m actually a little disappointed. According this comment, the Green Party advocates alternative medicine and related pseudosciences. When asked about nuclear energy, Jill was just plain wrong in this response. It gives me the impression that the Green Party may be as anti-science as the Republican Party, just on different issues.
@Crono09 - Shit, I thought a physicist would be pro-nuclear power. Although to be fair, her answer was anti-nuclear on political grounds, not on scientific grounds. Still… shit. Especially shit on the “alternative medicine” route. Well… now I need to rethink this. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
@GodlessLiberal - To be fair, the support of alternative medicine is the Green Party stance, and Jill Stein didn’t seem to be as supportive of it as the party line. It’s unlikely that anyone is going to find a candidate who lines up with their views 100%, so Stein might still be for you if you support most of her other views. I was impressed with her stances on internet freedom and indefinite detention. Overall, her AMA didn’t win me over though.
