When I voted I didn’t have a drivers license, it was a state issued ID. It’s not hard to get one.

Because the way they’re being made to prove who they say they are unnecessarily restrictive and intended as a means of voter suppression.

Also, one’s Constitutional right to vote shouldn’t suddenly disappear without the foresight to apply for one or to have brought one ot the polling tation.
Yeah, in my state it’s not hard to get one. All you have to do is go to the DMV website and they tell you what you need

Pennsylvania Senate Majority Leader Turzai said it…”Voter ID law which will assure Romney wins the State. Done.” How un-American is that? then imagine your mother has voted all her life. now your mom’s in her 80s, suffers from incontinence and suddenly needs someone to drive her to a registration place where she’ll need to stand on a number of lines for 4 hours, if she’s lucky. it’s easy to say it’s easy to get voter ID when you’re younger and can afford to take a day or two or three off work. and there is no significant evidence of voter fraud. the Bush administration proved that when it spent taxpayer money to investigate fraud and found only 17 cases if i remember correctly over a period of years. it might have been 13. either way there is a far greater chance of being struck by lightning.
it’s funny republicans haven’t addressed a more real issue of voter fraud which is nonetheless still rare. that is challenging write in votes in which people can fill out and forge signatures of the elderly suffering from dementia.

It is used by every Republican legislator trying to suppress votes. It is nonsense. Voter fraud, we know, is less likely than being hit by lightning. If you’re looking for a serious problem, look at the diminishing number of new registrations in Florida ( LINK ).

Is voter fraud less likely than to be struck by lightening, or is being caught in voter fraud less likely than being struck by lightening? If I choose not to vote this election, what is to keep my neighbor from going in and using my name and voting in my place? I am not going to assume an ID is the only way to prevent that.
@GodlessLiberal - I am asking what alternative can be used so as not to disenfranchise people, but at the same time put everyone’s mind at ease about the issue. Wouldn’t it be nice if your guy wins and the opposing party has to actually re-think their platform instead of crying foul?
@FringeChristian@revelife - NOTHING will put some people’s minds at ease. Obama released his long form birth certificate, but 1/4 of all registered Republicans think he was born in Kenya. There was a giant controversy over Obama’s CHRISTIAN minister, and yet 1/3 of registered Republicans think he’s a Muslim. Even if we did fingerprints, retinal scans and DNA tests there would be people calling foul on our voting techniques. The process has always been meant to be anonymous (as in, you can vote for whoever you wish and there will be no repercussions because nobody will know). Voter ID laws not only invalidate that, but are effectively a poll tax. You can’t make the conspiracy idiots on either side of the aisle happy, so we need to quit trying to appease them. At least Democrats learned to not listen to the radicals on the left asking to dismantle the military, but for some reason the Republicans listen to the idiots asking to abolish the IRS and take them seriously.
What I’m getting at is that our government should not kowtow to terrorists, whether they be domestic or abroad. And anybody who is trying to curtail a certain group’s (read: Democrat’s) right to vote may not be a terrorist, but at least is an enemy of the democracy our country was meant to aspire to. And just because some whiners are particularly loud doesn’t mean we have to give in to them to “appease” them.
haha move to Canada…where all you need is proof of residence – like a utility bill, and valid photo ID. . Sounds easy…until you’re on residence, and your valid student ID wasn’t good enough because it didn’t have your address on it…no problem, print off your proof of residence from the university, and bring it combined WITH your government photo ID AND your student ID – oh still not good enough…well that was a great first year =P
hahah thankfully the next few times they accepted my student ID, not sure if that proctor was just a poopy head, or if he hadn’t been informed about students and their special cases…

Furthermore, what Republicans are trying to do is demand that people produce a specific type of identification–a driver’s license–that they know traditionally liberal demographics of people don’t have. Why is a driver’s license permitted, but not a social security card or birth certificate? Each are easily verifiable.
But this is all besides the point. We know, by their own admissions, that the type of voter fraud these bills are designed to address simply don’t occur. The problem is a red herring. These bills weren’t designed to address voter fraud, they were designed to suppress voting among the elderly, the poor, and students, which is why federal courts have consistently overturned these laws.

That’s not true. They would only cry foul when Democrats won elections.
@FringeChristian@revelife - not when you’re on res…they bill your home home address because you have to pay before school starts =P a lot of kids are barely 18 yet, so IF they have a credit card, for a lot of them it has to be a joint card (because the banks want to make sure SOMEONE will cover the payments if you decide to overspend), and they just barely turned legal, so they got them when they were minors anyways… and as a result its just easier to have them sent home because why file a change of address when you’re going to move again in 10 months?
