  • Dinosaur Q&A

Ever since they realized I love dinosaurs, a handful of my Xanga friends have been barraging me with dozens of dinosaur questions via text. This is terribly inefficient, so I figured I’d answer them in an actual post. This is open to anyone who wants to take part. Just ask me any dinosaur-related question, and I’ll answer the ones I like in the next few days via a new post.

    Ask away!

  • To get the ball rolling, let’s try this crazy hypothetical out for size:

Suppose that a colony of the now extinct miniture humans from Indonesia, Homo Floresiensis or Hobbit, fell through a time portal to the paleo-continent of Gondwana. In the universal human urge to domesticate wildlife, which dinosaurs would such a mini-human choose to rule ancient earth?

Told ya it would be crazy

  • I don’t pay much attention to dinosaurs so excuse my question for being more what you would expect from a 1st grader. From time to time I’ve heard different theories on how dinosaurs became extinct. One I recall was meteor impact creating a long night. Do we know today with certainty what caused their extinction?

A bonus question: How fast could the fastest of the dinosaurs run?

  • Why was Julianne Moore allowed to survive the tyrannosaur attack in Lost World Jurassic Park?  She is too grotesque-looking to live.

  • when do I get my pet dinosaur?

…although actually, I was watching a documentary on dinosaurs and stuff but I only caught snippets, and I was just intrigued by the extinction timeline they gave…(obviously dramatized) I guess why they went extinct, and more than “an asteroid” or “it went really dark and cold” would be cool =)

  • I’ve only asked one! And, shared a few snapshots of my game :P

Hmmmmmm I have to ponder!! Because I only asked the one question that occurred to me in the moment :)

  • How did the dinosaurs become extinct?
Why are you so interested in dinosaurs?
    Explain the kangaroo thing again!
I always see the pictures with T-Rex saying things like “poor T-Rex and his little arms.” Do you think they lived a sad life?
    What’s you favourite dinosaur? Why?

  • Is the real T-Rex anywhere near as Awesome as the T-Rex in Jurassic Park?

  • So in watching a documentary preparing questions for this, it occurred to me that there used to be a lot more very large creatures roaming the earth. A sea reptile that was 25 meters long? I think they said they were 125 tons in weight. The largest creatures I can think of that we have now are giant squid, whale sharks, rhinos, and hippos, creatures like that. But they don’t seem to compare to how large creatures were millions of years ago, because there were a lot more of them, and they were a lot larger than now. Why is this? Why are there smaller creatures and fewer huge ones? Do you think humans could have survived to the point we have if we had more very large animals?

  • @McScarry - Are we talking them choosing a particular dinosaur to rule, or are they picking a dinosaur as their animal labor to help THEMSELVES rule the world? And do I really need to limit myself to dinosaurs of Gondwana, or is Laurasia also up for grabs?

  • @GodlessLiberal - I’m thinking the Hobbits want to rule the ancient world using dinosaurs. Which would they choose?

Sure, they can try to domesticate Laurasian dinosaurs too, but since they landed in Gondwana, they have to start there and work their way up, so to speak.
