  • I thought the election was over.

  •     Bill O’Reilly did a good job writing “Killing Lincoln”, and I’m sure he did the same good job with, “Killing Kennedy (I’ll know soon enough)”… He might not be cool in many respects but, he’s proven to be a pretty good historian.

  • The tax rate…I was watching a show years from the 50s a few weekends ago.  It was called The Millionaire.  The premise was this rich guy gave deserving people a million dollars and the show was about how it changed their lives.  Well part of what he did was made it so he took care of the taxes.  If he didn’t the people would’ve only been able to keep $250,000.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - I remember that show. “He wishes to remain anonymous” was a line throughout the series.

  • The republican party needs to wake up or it’s going *poof*. A good start would be to stop kissing Grover Norquist’s butt and doing things that benefit Americans rather than worrying about Norquist threatening their job security. Some seem to be getting that message. They couldn’t buy the election and couldn’t win it by suppressing votes. Bill O’Reilly is consistently wrong in his “facts” and his bad predictions bear that out.

  • @TheSutraDude - YES!  However they always said his name in the opening and showed his “mansion” but I don’t think they ever showed him from the front.  He was always sitting and they showed him from behind the desk.

  • @godfatherofgreenbay - Yes it was always a shot of him from behind sitting at his desk….like Steinbrenner in Seinfeld ha ha.

  • @TheTheologiansCafe - Good point. And I’m sure all Republicans and the whole cast of Fox News have lost all of their indignation about Obama’s second term and how it means the end of freedom as we know it. Oh, wait. No, they’re still bitching about it. And they’ll continue bitching about it. Just like I’ll continue bitching about Michele Bachmann and her insane xenophobia, or Grover Nordquist and his attempt to own the Republican Party, or Texas and their pathological wish to secede.

  • I think that the treatment of the top tax rate here is simplistic, given the other factors that were at play during that time period, but, amusing comic all the same.

  • Count on Theo to always deliver the out-of-touch, idiotic pointlessness.

By the way, how’s the Nate Silver book? I got it on my wish list, but considering my income, hell might freeze over by the time I get to 1/3 of the items there. I mean, if there was a hell.

  • @QuantumStorm - Other factors like what?

  • umm a True headline though!….

  • @In_Reason_I_Trust - Just starting it, but if you read his blog on 538 and don’t mind some of the statistical analysis stuff, you’ll love the book. However, if you don’t give a rat’s ass about statistics, take it off your wish list.

  • @Celestial_Teapot - Well I was thinking about the economic status of the US at that time in comparison with much of Europe and the far East. A top tax rate of 91% was something the US could better afford to do back then, than they could do now, given the state of affairs in the post-WW2 European and Asian economies.

  • Just wanted to let you know that I am super stoked that your still on Xanga :) Cause I just came back with a half ass blog! Yay! Missed you Krisko!

  • “Traditional America” involves more than taxes.  Although to be fair, in the past any candidate who campaigned on the premise of tax cuts would have been lauded.  This is the first time a promise of tax cuts to everyone was received negatively.  It has to do with a shift in beliefs regarding personal responsibility and the role of government in the economy.

You’re right about the liberalism in the past, but again, that is not “Traditional America” either.  What we want is a return to the original basis upon which the country was founded, which predates things like the New Deal.

That being said I have a question for you.  How do you feel about being made to pay the Jizya tax?  You know Obama is giving money to Pakistan, the Muslim Brotherhood, and Hamas.  Don’t you think that all of that spending should be cut before we talk about tax hikes?  That spending is a drain on our economy for which no one in the US will see a positive return on any level.  Also, how do you feel about your tax money being spent to build mosques, kill Christians, and kill Jews overseas?  The fact that Obama gives money to these people amounts to a Jizya tax.  We are paying to support the spread of Islam.  As an atheist, what are your feelings on that?  I happen to be enraged over it.  My opinion on the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas is that they should be hunted down and killed to the last man, not get our tax money.
